We started our first store in the front room of a day care center on King Ave. We had completely filled the 600 sq. foot room right away. We found our next location on Grandview Ave., across from the Grandview Post Office. After 6 years and an expansion at that location we moved to our current location. We gained one third more space, a parking lot and a basement.
We went to Fifth Third Bank to talk about getting a loan to start our new business. After looking over our paperwork, we were told that if we brought our husbands in they were sure they could help us. So we looked toward more creative financing. Enter the Discover Card.
We scoured the papers for store closings where we went to buy used store fixtures & hangers. We went to thrift stores, garage sales and friends homes to get merchandise. We talked to Kate Holmes at One More Time who offered us lots of information as well as the help of her manual TGTBT and a newsletter by the same name. Kate also introduced us to NARTS (
National Association of Resale and Thrift Stores).
